Day 1

Arrival in Windhoek and meeting at the airport. Pick up of the rental car ( if booked as a self-drive tour ). Drive ( about 40 km ) to the "Hotel Thule" located on a hill in the Eros district with a beautiful view over the city of Windhoek. Rest, refresh and lunch break. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the sights of the Namibian capital. Alternative leisure for individual experiences and sightseeing. Recommendation: Dinner in the popular "Joes Beerhouse" or the "Kubata Restaurant" opposite Joes (highly recommended) in the Eros district. Transport provided.

Day 2

Travel time approximately 3 hours - 300 km

After breakfast we start from Windhoek via Okahandja to the Waterberg Plateau Park. We arrive at the beautiful "Waterberg Resort" quite early and can therefore, after a short lunch break, take a walk in the bush or go on the ever popular "Game Drive". With a bit of luck, we can already see rhino, buffalo and various antelope species. Accommodation and breakfast in the lodge. Recommendation: Dinner individually in the lodge.

Day 3

Travel time approximately 4 hours - 350 km

After breakfast, drive over Otjiwarongo, Otavi and Tsumeb to the north entrance (Lindequist Gate) of the Etosha National Park and reach our next destination the "Mokuti Etosha Lodge", which is the closest lodge before the entrance of the park The lodge is located on its own 4000 hectare private property. After the lunch break we will go on a 4 - 5 hour long 'Game Drive' where we most certainly will see some of the "Big Five" among many other animal species. Accommodation in the lodge. Recommendation: Dinner individually in the lodge.

Day 4

Travel time approximately 8 hours - 330 km

Today is a very interesting day because we leave early after breakfast and drive through the park to the other side in the west and reach the new and luxurious "Dolomite Camp" in the late afternoon. Without a doubt, we will still experience a lot on this trip. This is a long and dusty ride because we are not allowed to drive faster than 60 km per hour in the park. We will have to take our lunch break in Okaukueio and refuel our cars.

Day 5

Travel time approximately 6 hours - 350 km

We enjoy the last glimpse at breakfast over the wide valley of the Etosha Pan and tell the animals "Good bye", because now it goes on in the direction of my old home "Kunene". About 170 km of tar road through a beautiful landscape until we stop in Opuwo, take a lunch break at Anette's coffee shop, refuel and continue to the absolutely most beautiful part of Nambia. 180 km of gravel road in a mountainous landscape over Okongwati to the Epupa Falls. Many Himbas along the road will already recognize me and welcome us. We are very welcome here. Arrival at 14h00 at the "Epupa Camp". For the afternoon, a "Sundowner" is provided on the hill above the waterfalls otherwise leisure. Overnight at the camp and dinner is included in the price of the tour.

Day 6

Breakfast on the terrace of the camp directly at the Kunene river. At 8h00 we leave for a spectacular "Himba Drive" (see my guest book). Here we learn all about the culture, history and traditions of these unique people who have settled here at the end of the last century and whose world is practically untouched and in order. We also visit a cemetery of the Himbas as well as the primary school of Epupa. The afternoon is free, but highly recommended is the river rafting on the Kunene river (also suitable for absolute beginners) or a visit to Koos Verwey's "Epupa Lodge" for a "sundowner" on its wooden deck next to the waterfalls. Overnight at the camp and dinner is included again in the price of the trip.

Day 7

Travel time approximately 6 hours - 320 km

We leave Epupa after the breakfast back to Opuwo where we have to refuel again and take the C 43 road which leads us over the magnificent "Joubert Pass" to Sesfontein. Here we reach "Fort Sesfontein", an old restored German fort, which today is operated as a lodge and serves as a stopover on the way to the "Vingerklip Lodge". The afternoon is at your disposal. Overnight at the lodge. Recommendation: Dinner individually in the lodge.

Day 8

Travel time approximately 6 hours - 300 km ( to Vingerklip Lodge )

After breakfast we head for Twyfelfontein where we will visit the famous "World Heritage Site" in Twyfelfontein. Here we can take a walk of about 2 hours with a local guide, where we can admire the more than 2000 years old rock formations of the then "Bushmen". After a short lunch break, we continue to the "Vingerklip Lodge", which is situated on a beautiful mountain terrace with a view over the valley and on to the also famous Vingerklip rock. If you like, you can take a safe walk on the marked trails to the rock. Overnight stay and breakfast at the lodge. Recommendation: Dinner individually in the lodge.

Day 9

Travel time approximately 6 hours - 350 km

We leave after breakfast to reach our next destination Swakopmund. Today we will drive the whole route via sand or gravel road via Khorixas and the Minendorf Uis to the coast, where we arrive in Henties Bay after about 5 hours. Here we can get our first taste of the cold Atlantic Ocean at the beautiful clean beach and after a short break we continue to our destination the hotel "Deutsches Haus" in Swakopmund. Accommodation and breakfast in the hotel. Recommendation: Dinner at the hotel or the popular "K├╝cki's Pub".

Day 10

After breakfast leisure. In the early morning you will have the opportunity at a surcharge to go on a spectacular catamaran tour in the Bay of Walvis Bay. On board you will be visited by sea lions and pelicans, with dolphins swimming before the bow and oysters are served with champagne. In case of interest in the afternoon individual trip to Cape Cross including a visit of the gigantic seal colony, where we will find more than a hundredthousand seals with an unforgettable smell and noise. Overnight stay and breakfast at the hotel "Deutsches Haus" in Swakopmund. Recommendation: Dinner in the ultra German "Brauhaus" or in the landmark restaurant "Jetty 1905" which is situated about 270 meters on the jetty in the see.

Day 11

Travel time approximately 5 hours - 480 km

Today we will be driving after breakfast, via Usakos, Karibib and Okahandja, back to Windhoek and spend our second last day again at "Hotel Thule". Afternoon and evening are available for recreation and for individual activities.

Day 12

Breakfast at leisure after which we will pay Windhoek another visit, but this time we will go West to the "Daan Viljoen Game Park" where we hopefully will see some more animals. Nevertheless, it is a very scenic and beautiful park even for simple relaxation. Afterwards we go to the Katutura district where we will learn more about the life, culture and traditions of our dark-skinned country men and women, as well as the history of this part of Windhoek. We can also try a small snack at the now famous "Soweto Meat Market" , which is called "Kapana". Back to Windhoek where we can spend the last hours with wistful farewell looks on the terrace of the hotel "Heinitzburg" above the town and enjoy the best German 'Apple Strudel' or an ice cold Windhoek beer.
Around 17h45 to the airport and dropping off the rental car ( with the self-drive option ) At around 21h45 pm check-in for your flight back home.

The self-driver option requires a valid driving license plus a valid International driving license.

Also recommendable is a health insurance which also covers you abroad.

* Different airlines now fly to Windhoek and the flight prices have drastically declined. It is recommended to go 'google' a bit and to look for carriers such as Condor, KLM and SAA. Especially Quatar Airways is worth to consider.

Namibia is as large as Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Northern Italy, but with only two inhabitants per square kilometer it has fewer inhabitants than Hamburg.

These facts alone suggest a sparsely settled population and large distances.

In Namibia, there is left-hand traffic. We travel up to 500 km on this tour on some days, which is not a problem at all in view of the low traffic volume. It is important to note that about 85% of the road network in the host country is not paved, but rather so-called "gravelroads" ( dirt roads ), which can be used by conventional cars.

Based on our route of approx. 4100 km, about one half are normal tar and the other half gravel or sand roads.

Our tour includes accommodation and breakfast or half board. Additional costs eg for dinner are rather insignificant, because in Namibia most menus are reasonably priced in comparison to other countries.
